PROJECT SUMMARY:

The owners of a historic home in the Spanish Revival style wanted a grand master bathroom as a respite from their busy lifestyles. The original bathroom had been remodeled in the 1980s with little thought given to how its design fit with the historical nature of the home. The new master bathroom needed to align with the original character of the early 1900's home, while providing modern function, convenience and luxury. The remarkable transformation of this room gave the clients the grand master bathroom they had dreamed about, with all the storage and modern luxuries they desired. A beautiful room on its own, the master bathroom also seems as if it has always belonged in its historical home.

The function and aesthetics of the existing bathroom left much to be desired. The room had been remodeled sometime in the 1980s with little attention paid to how its design fit with the historical nature of the home.

Wrought iron lighting gives the illusion of more space while emphasizing the historical feeling of the room with a candle-like glow. The rectangular sinks are fitted with Rohl crystal fixtures and surrounded by gleaming granite. This closeup view shows the remarkable detailing of the hand-painted tiles repeated throughout the room.

The new tub was selected for its beautiful lines and ample size. The clients were interested in a freestanding tub but wanted to avoid claw feet. The clean, elegant design of this tub fits perfectly in its new environment. One of the clients is a financial advisor who can now easily check the markets in the morning from the comfort of his stylish tub with the addition of a discreetly placed television on the wall.

Ornately detailed hand-painted tiles bring continuity to the design and unify the master bath with the home's historical nature. The arch door and window in the shower area echo a theme used all through the house. The sophisticated selection of materials balances light and dark elements.
