PROJECT SUMMARY:

This modern organic master bathroom establishes two distinct areas for comfortable sharing and unifies a respect for nature's colors and textures with an appreciation for clean, disciplined lines. For a couple sharing a master bathroom in the home they have owned for more than 30 years, a sense of separate space was essential. They wanted a modern organic aesthetic with earthy simplicity. Space planning was critical for this master bath, created from the existing bathroom plus room borrowed from a little-used landing.

Floating vanity cabinetry establishes a light, open feeling. Haze alzak recessed lighting, a mindful choice for environmentally conscious clients, provides the best light output with the least amount of glare. The walnut travertine flooring continues from the bathroom floor into the shower where three shower heads, including a hand held, provide maximum luxury within the streamlined glass wall. The dramatic slab travertine in the shower is reminiscent of the surrounding sandstone hills, much beloved by the clients.

The original bathroom had seen better days and was barely functional, hidden away in a dark downstairs hallway. It was difficult to share and there was little room for storage.

Every square inch of the floor plan in the new bathroom was utilized for maximum functionality. Distinct areas for husband and wife mirror each other with pleasing symmetry. A sense of openness is established with floating quarter sawn oak vanity cabinetry.

Creative space planning was used to maximize the square footage of the new master bathroom. This underused part of the home is now the master bath's shower area.

A sense of inviting sanctuary was created by designing the shower with a large glass door, a comfortable bench and an oversized niche deep enough to safely contain towels and robes.

This corner of the master bathroom displays the subtle interplay of the wall color and the countertop's Creme Marfil marble. The design was planned with an unusual amount of storage, including a blind corner Lazy Susan and built-in shelves for linens.
