PROJECT SUMMARY:

When a well-travelled young couple fell in love with the incredible views from this seaside home they decided to make it their own and completely transform the original outdated structure. The couple envisioned a kitchen with the classic feel of an East Coast cottage and the sophisticated design of European living spaces.

They were on a tight deadline to make the kitchen livable for them and their two young children. The remodel was completed within the original footprint of the existing home, built in the 1960s. The kitchen appears dramatically larger and is vastly more functional after inventive space planning and thoughtful design. Stunning natural surroundings are now central to its welcoming, light-filled design.

2016 CotY Contractor Award for Residential Kitchen - Before 1

The existing home had an amazing location but the interior was outdated and dingy, with little thought given to space planning.

Natural light now floods the room and the space is dramatically brighter and more open. A bay window seat encourages gazing at the natural surroundings. A soffit elegantly defines the space.

The home has a wonderful connection to the outdoors but it was not maximized in the original design. The interior's outdated and dingy appearance was in stark contrast to the stunning nature just outside.

In the expansive new kitchen, the clean and neutral lines are in harmony with surrounding beauty. Summit Founder's Reserve flooring in a wide plank design underlies the appealing simplicity of the design.

The original kitchen was cramped into a corner of the space and didn't allow much room for navigating while cooking and cleaning.

Smart space planning was essential to the overall aesthetics of the new kitchen design. A classic farmhouse sink was chosen with stainless steel for a contemporary attitude. Cabinets with glass doors frame the sink, making it a focal point in the room.

A clunky old pantry in the original kitchen was placed next to the refrigerator.

A colorful surprise of bright blue makes every trip to the pantry delightful. The splash of color is a whimsical touch in a room with mostly subdued hues.

A built in butcher block on the corner of the island is a treasured tool for a client who loves to spend time in the kitchen cooking fresh meals.
