PROJECT SUMMARY:

For a couple sharing a master bathroom in the home they have owned for more than 30 years, a sense of separate space was essential. They wanted a modern organic aesthetic with earthy simplicity. Space planning was critical for this master bath, created from the existing bathroom plus room borrowed from a little-used landing. Distinct areas for the husband and wife mirror each other with pleasing symmetry and create the sense of personal space the clients desired.

Floating vanity cabinetry is an architectural element that establishes a light, open feeling. Haze alzak recessed lighting, a mindful choice for environmentally conscious clients, provides the best light output with the least amount of glare. The design's appealing character is expressed with material and finish choices. Quarter sawn oak cabinetry displays a subtle, complex texture. Dramatic slab travertine in the shower is reminiscent of the surrounding sandstone hills, much beloved by the clients.

The existing bathroom was a dark and cramped room with a decades old design. It was difficult to share and there was little room for storage.

In the new bathroom, separate areas for husband and wife mirror each other with pleasing symmetry. A sense of openness is established with floating quarter sawn oak vanity cabinetry. Every square inch of the floor plan was utilized for maximum functionality. The design's architectural approach favors very clean, straight lines and an emphasis on organic simplicity.

The original bathroom had seen better days and was barely functional, hidden away in a dark downstairs hallway.

The sumptuous shower was designed as the focal point of the room. Dramatic expanses of slab travertine were selected in colors and textures which capture the spirit of the home's surrounding sandstone hills, much beloved by the clients.

Innovative mirror cabinets, which slide open to reveal plentiful storage space and electrical outlets, are illuminated by simple yet interesting rectangles of light strategically placed for optimum, flattering lighting. This modern organic master bathroom establishes two distinct areas for comfortable sharing and unifies a respect for nature's colors and textures with an appreciation for clean, disciplined lines.
