With Thanksgiving just around the corner, kitchens are one of the most used spaces in our homes. If you’ve been considering a kitchen remodel, you’re probably dreaming about how your kitchen could be more expansive, welcoming and functional. Our professional designers listen closely to your needs and desires for your space and then evaluate your home along with our team of architects. Sometimes they decide that the best solution to achieve the kitchen of your dreams is moving where it is in the floor plan. Here are some examples of how moving your kitchen can transform your whole home remodel in ways you may not have imagined:

hinrichkitchenTake Advantage of Views
This home has amazing views but the original kitchen was not taking advantage of the surroundings. The architectural design decision was made to relocate the kitchen to maximize appreciation of the incredible vista. Natural light was dramatically increased and the kitchen was more gracefully connected to the rest of the living space, defining it as a central gathering place.

Areas of your home you don’t spend much time in can be changed to a new purpose for a more appealing and functional layout. The kitchen was moved to the front of this home to replace a little used formal living space. This allowed for an expansive, stylish solution in a newly integrated open living space.

dyerkitchenNew Orientation and Scale
Sometimes a kitchen can be dramatically transformed by borrowing space from another room and changing the orientation of the kitchen to connect more with the home’s natural surroundings. That was the strategy used in this beach condo kitchen, which is now three times larger than the original.

When you work with a unified team of architects, designers, and construction professionals, you collaborate with professionals who have years of experience in developing innovative approaches to the design of your home. On Turkey Day and every day, it’s so comforting to have a functional, beautiful, and inviting kitchen in your whole home remodel!

pruettlivingWhile an accent wall is a more typical way to experiment with color in your home, a painted ceiling is an adventurous choice that adds drama and sophistication to your whole home remodel. A painted ceiling adapts to virtually any architectural style or design aesthetic. Here are some ideas to consider:

pritcherDark, Bright, or White
A dark gray or navy blue ceiling will make a dramatic statement and make any room feel more elegant. Darker colors are best in rooms with unusually high ceilings, to keep the space from feeling smaller. A bright shade of blue, yellow, or green is a creative way to pop color into a room that is otherwise white or neutral. The combination of bright and white instills a sense of fresh energy. Painting a wood ceiling white is a modern approach that makes a space feel airy, expansive, and contemporary.

pritcherceilingAccentuate Details
Painted ceilings are an exceptional choice for homes with interesting architectural features. Beams, molding, skylights, and other details come to life with the right color choices.

Thoughtful Finish
The finish of your paint becomes its own design element. A matte finish, which minimizes imperfections, is the most common choice for the ceiling. If imperfections aren’t a concern, a glossy finish is an interesting choice that adds a subtle reflection to a space.

The details of how you express your creativity in your home are some of the most exciting aspects of a whole home remodel! Working with a unified team of architects, designers, and construction professionals, you can explore your favorite ideas in design from floor to ceiling!

lowelivingOver the past few decades, the popularity of Mid-Century Modern design for the home has continued to strengthen. The style’s lasting appeal can be found in its simplicity, its emphasis on indoor/outdoor living, and its focus on clean lines with thoughtfully designed elements. Whether you live in a home built during the period and want to honor its original concept, or you are simply attracted to the aesthetics of the 1940s through the 1960s, here are some ideas for integrating Mid-Century Modern into your whole home remodel:

pritcherdineOpen Floor Plan
Simplicity is an underlying principle. Linear, uncluttered layouts with ample light please the senses and are practical for family life.

Connecting with Nature
Large expanses of glass are common in Mid-Century Modern homes, allowing light to flow in from many angles while connecting to nature and encouraging indoor/outdoor living.

barnbathNeutral Colors
White or pale neutrals keep the focus on statement furniture and art. One bold wall of a primary color is an interesting alternative approach.

Engaging Accessories
Iconic mid-century furniture typically features clean lines composed of teak, walnut, oak or rosewood, which bring warmth to the expanse of an open space. Bold patterns and rich textures add character, while one carefully selected light fixture makes a statement in a very mid-century way.

Mid-Century Modern just seems to get better with time, the very essence of timelessness. For the most successful results in your home, you’ll want to integrate period ideas with ideas from today. Our unified team of architects, designers and construction professionals can guide you toward the smartest decisions for your whole home remodel.

Drones for Your Home: How the Latest Technology Helps Our Architectural Team Design and Build Your Whole Home Remodel

nav1Our architectural team is continually exploring the latest technology for new ways to help clients visualize a whole home remodel. Drones are uniquely equipped to assist in the remodeling process, helping us to see from a variety of previously unavailable perspectives how a whole home remodel will look, feel, and function.

A drone can fly over any property and map out the terrain. This is especially useful for hillside sites, allowing us to investigate a home’s footprint and its surroundings from all angles. With drone technology, our Residential Designers can carefully plan views in relationship to the ocean or other landmarks, and we can make even more thoroughly informed recommendations about overall mass and site lines. For the Sicilian Villa inspired project shown here, we nav2used a drone to determine the best way to plan the outdoor living space to integrate with the natural landscape while ensuring privacy from surrounding homes.

Drones strengthen our ability to give clients accurate, all-inclusive 3-D models with Revit software. Our team walks clients through a virtual representation of each project that is more detailed and simple to understand than ever before. We can show clients in a way that is easy to visualize where an addition makes the most sense, what the best location on a site is for views, where to design an outdoor living space, and much more.

nav3Our focus on state-of-the-art technology is balanced with artistic skill and hands-on experience. Using these tools helps our professional architectural team express their highest levels of creativity and present plans in a comprehensive way that gives clients increased confidence assessing options and outcome. Our architectural team meets weekly with our design team in structured sessions during which we share principles, ideas, and knowledge so that the team is unified in goals and methods. This dedication to consistency is reflected in our clients’ satisfaction with their whole home remodel process, from the very first presentation of concepts, to their beautiful finished home.
