Destroyed Himmel Residence Rebuilt as Dream Home

After their house was destroyed by the wildfires that swept across San Diego in October 2007, News 8 Anchor Larry Himmel and his family found themselves without their home of 20 years and everything in it. Since then, Larry, his wife Joan, and their son, Miles, have experienced many emotional ups and downs, but they are now happily settled in their custom home that Jackson Design and Remodeling built. "It really is our dream home," says Joan Himmel.

The Jackson Design and Remodeling team, fused Southwestern and contemporary design and capitalized on the property's amazing scenic views. The design features an open floor plan with a lower level living space that overlooks the pool. A gourmet kitchen integrates modern function with interesting textural choices, such as Knotty Alder cabinetry in two tones, quartz and granite countertops, porcelain tile evoking rusty metal, natural slate tile, stainless steel appliances, and hickory distressed hardwood floors. The master bath beckons with a soaking tub and full body shower system. The finished Himmel home is a beautiful space that embraces outdoor living and creates a sense of warmth and family.

We are happy to share the videos below documenting the exciting progress we have made in rebuilding the Himmel residence.

It's been an emotional roller coaster. But, thanks to the amazing Jackson team, the whole rebuilding experience was smooth and seamless. It's really been wonderful working with everyone at Jackson, especially our designer, Tatiana, who we truly feel is part of our family now.
