Project Summary
This home near the ocean was built for a retired couple with a strategically considered design plan and thoughtful elements that will make it easier to age in place while surrounded by beautiful contemporary, minimalist design. The couple lived in several cities before settling in San Diego to enjoy its healthy environment. They wanted their home to take advantage of stunning ocean views and embody San Diego’s ideal indoor/outdoor lifestyle.

Minimalism is the overarching theme of both the exterior and interior of the home. Inside, the highly contemporary minimalist architecture emphasizes simplicity and clean horizontal lines, with a subtle color palette and restrained details. The front entry incorporates a subtle ramp to accommodate any future accessibility needs. The kitchen seamlessly integrates a convection oven, a steam oven, two warming drawers, and a microwave, along with two refrigerators with freezer drawers. Extra appliances are another carefully considered option for aging in place when live-in help may be required. Curbless open showers in the bathrooms are bold and contemporary while also being ideal for mobility when aging in place. The expansive master suite is a place the couple can relax in for hours, independent of the rest of the home. It’s perfect as a retreat for today and as a plan for the future when travelling between levels might be inconvenient. The clients now live with a home precisely tailored to their needs and lifestyle today and anticipated in the future. Their home expresses their love of minimalist design and their gratitude for beautiful natural surroundings that promote health and well-being.
