2024 Trend Watch: Statement Floors Are Underfoot in Home Design This Year

Flooring is one of the most important decisions you’ll make during a home remodel. A significant investment and a design element that cannot be easily changed, flooring also has a strong influence on the look and feel of your surroundings. All of these factors mean it’s essential to choose flooring you know you will continue to love for many years to come. Luckily, this year we see many sources of flooring inspiration for every style of home to spark your imagination.

Intricate patterns are growing in popularity, expressed in both tile and wood flooring designs. Checkerboard, a classic from the Art Deco era, has never really gone away but this year there is a resurgence in its popularity. Another classic pattern, herringbone, is also being appreciated again for its traditional elegance. In keeping with the overall trend away from cooler tones, warm wood flooring is on the rise. Natural woods and stones are becoming more prevalent, particularly in today’s more modern, organic homes. Here are some of our recent projects with flooring ideas to inspire!

Vintage Retreat
Bold checkerboard marble flooring underlines the charm of this primary bathroom in a historic home addition where a vintage clawfoot tub is positioned to take in the view of a pretty backyard. A glittering chandelier, gold hardware, and an intricate black armoire complete the impression of elegant luxury from another era.

Spanish Coastal
For this Point Loma home, Spanish and modern coastal influences are balanced for a home design that welcomes entertaining and reflects the personal style of the clients. Intricate tile flooring makes an impression in a hallway leading to the primary suite, echoing tile design used throughout this expansive home with stunning views of the San Diego Bay and skyline.

Seaside Beauty
The entryway of this coastal home dazzles with soft coastal hues and meticulous details like the herringbone pattern on the flooring. The glow from the striking lighting can be seen from the street at night through the large transom window which also lets ample natural light in. An inviting bench with a backdrop of textured wallpaper sets the stage for the home’s welcoming environment.
