A Fridge that Grows Herbs? Jackson Design and Remodeling Designer Alison Green Wins Product of the Future Contest at KBIS 2018 for Innovative Living Fridge Concept

NKBA’s Thirty Under 30 winners were divided into teams and invited to present their product designs on stage during the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Orlando, Florida

(SAN DIEGO – February 6, 2018) – Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR), an award-winning San Diego-based design build remodeling firm, is proud to announce that Senior Interior Designer Alison Green and her team of fellow Thirty Under 30 honorees were the winners at this year’s “Product of the Future” competition held during the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Orlando, Fla. in January.

The prestigious National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) Thirty Under 30 recognizes 30 outstanding young professional designers from across the country who possess the passion, creativity and brilliance to be the voice of the next generation of kitchen and bath experts.

This year for the first time NKBA asked the honorees to work in six groups of five and to collaborate on a “Product of the Future.” The teams presented their creations on the KBISNeXT stage on Jan. 10 before a packed auditorium and the winner was chosen by a panel of industry experts.

The products presented this year included a Bluetooth app that tracks the freshness of food, a meal prep product with bins to separate produce based on chop and meal size, a refrigerator with a built in smoothie blender, a waste-eliminating product to preserve food’s freshness and a pot filler companion product. The winning concept, The Living Fridge, allows consumers to grow herbs in about seven days via adjustable growing trays that incorporate temperature control, grow lights and automatic watering. Zeolite blocks purify food by absorbing chemicals and odors. A Bluetooth feature allows consumers to set expiration date alerts, create shopping lists and organize meal plans. An innovative door camera allows users to see inside the fridge and track herb growth.

“We are so proud of Alison for all of her creativity and ingenuity,” said President and CEO of Jackson Design and Remodeling, Todd Jackson. “The Living Fridge concept is innovative, practical and reflects the ever changing needs of consumers and the desire for home access to fresh, healthy foods. Alison’s creativity shines through her work here at Jackson Design and Remodeling. Her ability to connect with clients and turn their visions into reality is what has led to her well-deserved awards.”

Alison Green joined Jackson Design and Remodeling immediately following her graduation from the Design Institute of San Diego, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design. She was inspired to pursue a career in design from a young age when her family moved into a new house that required a whole home design and she discovered how much she enjoyed creating from a blank slate. Alison’s work has been published locally and nationally in publications including Cottages and Bungalows and Make it Organized. Her recent Seaside Dazzle whole home won a 2018 CotY (Contractor of the Year) award from NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry). Alison also won a CotY award in 2017 for a Creative Modern Farmhouse kitchen. The first kitchen she ever designed, a Timeless Modern kitchen, won a National Chrysalis Award in 2015 and a Master Design Award in 2014. Alison is certified by the National Kitchen and Bath Association as an Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer (AKBD) and is an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

Thirty Under 30 honorees will also: present a Continuing Education class at a local NKBA chapter, attend virtual webinars with the NKBA, recruit a future nominee for the NKBA Thirty Under 30, and act as ambassadors for the NKBA and its Thirty Under 30 program.
