Jackson Design and Remodeling Wins 22nd Master Design Award
San Diego Firm Receives Gold Award in Competitive Kitchen Category
(SAN DIEGO – Sept. 23, 2020) – Jackson Design and Remodeling (JDR) has won a Master Design Award for a San Diego kitchen remodel featuring a built-in herb garden planter. The woodland modern kitchen remodel earned a gold award – the top award in the program – in the “Kitchens More than $150,000” category in this year’s competition. This is JDR’s 22nd Master Design award, an annual nationwide competition that recognizes the best design projects from around the country. The kitchen has also earned acclaim from industry leaders and was featured in the April print edition of Kitchen and Bath Business.
“The Woodland Modern Kitchen project required thoughtful architectural choices and material selections. Our team had a lot of fun on this project creating the herb garden planter, which is both beautiful and functional for the homeowners who love to cook with fresh herbs,” said President and CEO of Jackson Design and Remodeling, Todd Jackson. “We are seeing more of our clients request features like these as they spend more time at home and are looking for design to enhance their health and well-being.”
The winning Woodland Modern Kitchen was designed for a retired couple who plans to leave their home to their daughter. The daughter wanted a kitchen inspired by the future that her parents could feel comfortable in today. The JDR team worked closely with the clients to create an artistic kitchen inspired by its forested surroundings that balances cabin-like warmth with crisp modern design. The ebony herb garden planter makes a statement by bringing the greenery of the natural surroundings into the space. The piece required a meticulous design for interior metal liners to ensure water containment. The L-shaped island and herb garden provide an abundance of storage and counter space, finding the perfect harmony of artistry and functionality. In the existing home the entry felt closed off from the kitchen and made the whole home feel dark. For the new design, the front entry door and the location of the kitchen were repositioned, walls were removed, windows were rearranged, and ceilings were raised to create a dramatically more open and appealing space. The original kitchen was confined and cluttered with old appliances and cabinetry. The kitchen now emphasizes clean lines and an artfully designed layout that experiments with volume, texture and color.
Master Design Award entries are judged on overall impression, aesthetic appeal, attention to detail, financial value of the project, and more. The winning entries all highlight creative and extraordinary solutions in home improvement projects. Readers can find the winning projects in the September issue of Qualified Remodeler magazine.
