Architecture & Spatial Reconfiguration: Opening the Home

Architecturally, this whole home remodel brings a new sense of clarity and openness to the home. Soft archways, sculpted passageways, and layered ceiling details establish a graceful flow from room to room. What was once compartmentalized now feels connected. Light travels freely, views extend further, and each space participates in the home’s overall harmony.

Arches for Framing and Flow

A defining design gesture is the long, elegant hallway shaped by a repeating sequence of arches. This corridor acts as the spine of the home, revealing curated glimpses into key living areas as you move through it. It’s a piece of architectural theater that feels timeless and calm, yet undeniably striking.

Sightlines and Spanish Roots

Every transition was reconsidered. Sightlines were improved, circulation was refined, and natural light was elevated as a guiding force. Respecting the home’s Spanish-inspired roots, JDR preserved classical curves but softened them with contemporary simplicity, creating a style that feels both fresh and enduring.

The Kitchen: A Warm, Architecturally Layered Gathering Space

This gleaming kitchen remodel is designed for both daily living and joyful gathering. It is a study in contrast and cohesion. Warm natural wood meets crisp white cabinetry; bold geometric tile finds balance against sculptural light fixtures; and the large island serves as both a functional workstation and a social hub.

Brass and Backsplash Sass

A custom plaster range hood, wrapped in a minimalist gold band, anchors the back wall. Beneath it, a patterned backsplash brings depth and texture, echoing the artisanal quality that defines the home. Overhead, brushed brass pendants cast a flattering, ambient glow, while the dark island base adds grounding to the otherwise airy palette.

Lighting That Sets the Mood

Lighting plays a starring role in the kitchen’s atmosphere. Three large pendant lights in warm brass float gracefully above the island, casting a soft, flattering glow. Recessed lighting and under-cabinet illumination enhance function without disrupting the room’s gentle aesthetic.

The island functions as prep space, serving station, gathering spot, and design anchor. Its generous size allows multiple activities to happen at once. There’s plenty of room for cooking dinner, pouring wine, family time, and lingering conversations.
