Reimagining the Interior Layout

A home defined by glass demands thoughtful spatial planning. Without walls to rely on, proportion and level changes become the tools that shape the experience. Here, the layout was restructured to create openness without sacrificing intimacy.

A Subtle Shift in Elevation

The sunken living room introduces architectural depth the moment you step inside. One step down, and the space becomes grounded while still visually connected to the ocean beyond. The transition is subtle, but it creates a sense of arrival within the larger open plan.

Opposite, the kitchen sits slightly elevated. This gentle hierarchy establishes zones without the need for partitions. It allows the kitchen to function as both command center and sculptural anchor within the space.

Sightlines as Architecture

From the entry, the view extends uninterrupted through the main living space and out to the Pacific. Glass railings along the staircase preserve transparency across levels. Circulation paths remain clean and intuitive, ensuring that no structural element interrupts the horizon.

The Kitchen: A Contemporary Anchor Framed by Water

In a home built around transparency, the kitchen must hold its own without competing with the ocean. Flat-panel cabinetry in a rich espresso stain grounds the room against expansive glazing. Cream-toned stone countertops introduce softness, while a waterfall-edge island creates a sculptural focal point at the center of the space. Large-format neutral tile extends across floors and shower walls throughout this bathroom remodel, minimizing grout lines and creating a calm, uninterrupted surface. The horizontal orientation subtly echoes the ocean’s horizon line, reinforcing visual continuity from interior to exterior.
